Uralchem Group’s humanitarian shipment to Nigeria arrives in Onne Port, offloading underway

Uralchem Group announces that 34,000 tonnes of potash it has donated to Nigeria has arrived at the country’s port of Onne where it is currently being offloaded. The shipment to Africa’s most populous country is the Group’s fifth humanitarian consignment.

Since late 2022, Uralchem Group has contributed, free of charge, over 134,000 tonnes of fertilisers to African nations. Over 111,000 tonnes of Uralchem Group’s humanitarian shipments have been facilitated by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). WFP has chartered vessels to transport the consignments from European ports and warehouses to Malawi, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria. The Group has covered the sea freight and other delivery costs.

Uralchem Group is committed to donating approximately 300,000 tonnes of mineral fertilisers to developing nations to alleviate the unprecedented global food crisis. The initiative also supports efforts to meet UN Sustainable Development Goal #2 — “End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture”.

Dmitry Konyaev, CEO of Uralchem JSC:

We believe that access to food is one of the basic human rights that can and has to be secured by collective action on all levels. As one of the world’s major producers of mineral fertilisers, the use of which significantly increases food supply, we do what we can to prevent crop losses in countries struggling with food insecurity. We are pleased to witness our humanitarian shipment reach Nigerian shores and look forward to seeing the local farmers use the fertiliser in the most efficient way to reap a fruitful harvest.
