Information for farmers
Mineral nutrition for oilseed rape:
- Winter and summer oilseed rape is characterized by approximately the same amount of nutrients , which are removed with 1 tonne of grain and the corresponding amount of straw: 55?58 kg of nitrogen, 29?30 kg of phosphorus and 26?30 kg of potassium.
- Winter oilseed rape demands more nutrients then the spring type.
- Oilseed rape gives positive response to sulphur. By the crop yield of 25 c/ha the demand for sulphur is 25-30 kg/ha.
- The highest crop yield and quality can be achieved by application of 70?80 kg/ha SO3 together with application of nitrogen in spring.
- Phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are applied in full volume during the presowing cultivation.
- Complex fertilizers with 21?10?10?2 and 22?7?12?2 ratios structure containing nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and sulphur in one grain that secure even distribution of nutrients on application and generally help on even simultaneous emergence of seedlings as well as nitrogen sulphate as the main sulphur containing fertilizer will do best for spring oilseed rape.
Nitrogen: split application of mineral fertilizers is reasonable.
- For winter oilseed rape 20?30 % of the full volume of nitrogen is applied in fall before sowing.
- It is recommended to apply 40?50 % in spring and 25?35 % at stem extension (intensive elongation) stage.
- Nitrogen sulphate and nitrogen-sulphur bulk blends are considered to be the best nitrogen fertilizers for oilseed rape.
Phosphorus:
- 60kg/ha Р2О5 for pH 5,5 to 7,5 soils
- 70?90kg/ha Р2О5 for alkaline soils
- 140?160kg/ha Р2О5 for acid рН<5,5 soils
Potassium:
- High-potassium soils – 60?80 kg/ha К2О
- Medium-potassium soils – 120?150 kg/ha К2О
- Low-potassium soils – 200?250 kg/ha К2О
