Russian Nitrogen and Phosphate fertilizer producer, UralChem, has posted a 9M 2008 Net profit of $363.3 million under IFRS. Russian fertilizer producer UralChem boosted net profit to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) 17−fold year-on-year in the first half of 2008, the company said on October 23.

Nezavisimaya Gazeta asked Dmitriy Osipov, Chief Executive Officer of URALCHEM, OJSC, one of the largest mineral fertilizer producers in Russia to comment on the state of the mineral fertilizer market.

Dmitriy Mazepin’s Urachem purchased 7.5% shares of Togliattiazot (ToAZ), the largest independent fertilizer producer from Renova Group. According to the market quotations the deal could amount to $225 mln. ToAZ started experiencing problems right after Renova entered its capital in 2005, but now, according to the Group, the conflict is over. Analysts believe that Dmitriy Mazepin will try to increase his interest in ToAZ by purchasing the shares from Vladimir Makhlay, the major shareholder.

URALCHEM purchased 71.72% shares of Voskresensk Mineral Fertilizers and added a phosphorus fertilizer enterprise to its nitrogen plants. The deal amounted to $358.6 million.

URALCHEM, an agrochemical holding created at the end of last year published its first full year 2007 IFRS consolidated financial results. The Company’s revenue increased by 51% to $700 mln, with net profit increased by 159% to $91 million. The growth of the Company’s indicators is commensurate with the results of other Russian agrichemical holding companies.

According to 2007 IFRS financial results, Dmitriy Mazepin’s Uralchem owns 95% of KCCW shares and 95% Azot shares. On 13 May, Uralchem acquired 11.4% of KCCW shares and 11.2% of Azot shares for which it paid $59.57 million and $43.5 million correspondingly.
