Kirovo-Chepetsk Chemical Works, OJSC (KCCW) is one of the largest producers of mineral fertilizers: ammonium nitrate, NP fertilizers with various ratios of P2O5 and N as well as new brands of 2-component and 3-component mineral fertilizers. In 2009 the volume of output amounted to 1.9 million tonnes of marketable products.
KCCW, OJSC enjoys an enormous scientific, technological and engineering potential. Its reputation as a trustworthy partner and producer of unique high-quality goods is well known in Russia and abroad.
The plant is located 4 km away from Kirovo-Chepetsk and 15 km away from Kirov. The factory occupies an area of 263 hectares.
KCCW can produce over 10 brands of mineral fertilizers such as ammonium nitrate, nitrogen phosphate, various brands of NP, NPK, NPKS fertilizers. Synthetic chalk and strontium carbonate are manufactured as by-products. In 2004 a bulk blender was put into operation. It produces bulk blends with different groups of components according to customers’ needs.
The production process of KCCW, OJSC (the same as in most nitrogen fertilizers producing plants) is based on the following processing chain: ammonia - nitric acid – ammonium nitrate.
The plant has its own facilities for production of ammonia, some of which is sold as the final product and the rest is consequently used for further production of nitric acid and fertilizers.
Raw materials containing phosphorus play an important role in production of fertilizers: the factory can produce a variety of highly margin products by adding them to intermediate products made of ammonia. The factory’s technology makes it possible to produce various brands of complex (NPK) fertilizers to meet customer orders.
Depending on market conditions, the proportion of different products in the whole volume of production can be significantly changed.
Intermediate products from any stage of the production process can be either sold at the market in form of final production or used inside the factory for production of complex fertilizers.
KCCW plans to reduce the production of commercial ammonium nitrate and the sale of commercial ammonia while increasing the production of complex fertilizers and innovate derivatives of ammonium nitrate (nitrogensulphates (ASN) and calcium-ammonium nitrate (CAN). In order to implement these activities, a new element – sulphuric acid production - will be added to the processing chain. Sulphuric acid will make it possible to produce granulated ammonium sulphate which is a independent fertilizer and can be used as an intermediate product for production of various nitrogensulphates.
